Amberly's Place announces Week in Paradise winners

And the winner is …

Amberly’s Place held the drawing for Week in Paradise, its biggest fundraiser of the year, on Thursday at Harkins Theatres, before a screening of the movie “Incredibles 2.”

Winners of the packages for the all-expense paid vacations are as follows: Z Fun for Everyone: Tim Ricci; Adventure Date: Sandra Ruiz; Weekend Getaway: Kelley Gladrey; Arizona Cardinals: Sharon Merz; SeaWorld: Rosa Gonzales; Vegas Getaway: Lucia Salaraz; Knott’s Berry Farm: Jacob Smilek; Deep Sea Excursion: Jumping Jack Flash; Disneyland Package: John and Lynn Lizarraga.

And the winner of the grand prize, a Hawaiian Getaway, is Karen Spencer.

All packages were donated and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Amberly’s Place, which helps victims of physical and sexual child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. The funds will pay for the emergency needs of victims which are not paid for by grants.

“All package cost are covered by sponsors so the funds raised all stay here to help victims,” Diane Umphress, executive director, said.

In addition to the exciting vacation packages, the organization gave out 46 door prizes with values from $25 to $100 and raised more than $2,600 in sales.

“Our goal was 5,000 Week In Paradise tickets. We estimate we are about 150 tickets short of our goal. When we get final ticket sales from the Thrift Shoppe in, we will know for sure,” Umphress said.

That means about $48,500 was raised through Week in Paradise tickets, which were $10 each.

Umphress expressed gratitude to the community for supporting the advocacy center.

“We appreciate the support from Yuma. It is always a push to the end to make our goal. We are so thankful for Harkins and providing a nice cool theater and a great family movie to watch at no cost to Amberly’s Place,” she said.
