$10 makes a difference for agency

To make a difference at Amberly’s Place, it takes only $10.

It’s a small amount, but it can mean the world to local abuse victims.

Amberly’s Place serves victims of physical and sexual child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.

It’s not an easy job. The Amberly’s Place staff helps victims start new journeys, leaving behind violence and moving toward healing. The cases are heart-wrenching, yet Amberly’s Place never waivers. The staff helps victims move forward every day.

The advocacy center is in the midst of their annual Week in Paradise fundraiser raffle, which is a significant source of funding to help meet victims’ needs.

Generous donors make it all possible, covering the cost of prize packages and door prizes — which means all the money raised through the raffle tickets goes directly back to Amberly’s Place.

And these aren’t small prize packages, either. Prizes include a trip to Hawaii, Las Vegas, San Diego, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Sea World or a deep-sea excursion out of San Diego, as well as an adventure date in town, and four tickets to an Arizona Cardinals game, complete with a two-day stay in a hotel.

For those who buy a ticket, $10 isn’t much — the equivalent of two fancy coffee drinks. But for Amberly’s Place, $10 can quickly add up to have an impact. If 1,000 tickets are sold, that means $10,000 for the advocacy center. If 10,000 tickets are sold, the funds increase to $100,000 — and that opens doors for Amberly’s Place.

The funds go toward covering victims’ emergency needs that can’t be covered by grant money. That might mean covering the costs to change the lock’s on a victim’s home, or to fix broken windows. It might go toward co-pays for medication, or to pay for food for a victim and her children, or to pay for a bus ticket for a victim to be able to flee an abuser.

Every penny counts. Purchase your Week in Paradise tickets today, and help Amberly’s Place make a difference in Yuma.
